For those of you with short memories...

I know we are all fixing our eyes on this Tuesday and the bigger, nation-wide, situation, but we need to remember that we are looking for an interim superintendent this week and the reason is because the community (as proven by the other recent vote) wants us to stop the educational nonsense that has been pushed on our kids for years and bring some semblance of normalcy... unfortunately, even though this has been fast, there is still a need to get some things fixed faster than may be possible...

The principal of Green Acres has been using heavy handed tactics with his staff and wonders why the morale in the building is so low.

The LHS schedule needs to be fixed by second trimester so that kids at the high school might actually be able to take classes they need to be on track for graduation.

The financial situation needs to be resolved.

The Special Ed. situation needs to be resolved.

The testing issues need to be resolved.

Whoever is selected will have a lot to do right away if we are to help the kids we have right now and not make them wait while we get our collective acts together.

LP, what classes are missing in the LHS schedule? What testing issues need to be resolved? At what grade level?

You keep mentioning about issues with the special ed. As a mother with a child in the special ed program I would like to know what the problems are??? So far my son that is in high school has been having a great year.

The principal at Green Acres just had a front page spread with the goal of getting teachers to work more closely together to raise studetn achievment. If that is heavy handed I hope we can more adminstrators in this district like him. At least he is trying to be part of the solution. Leave people like him alone and stick to the people who aren't even trying. I also heard that he fired a weak teacher last year...isn't that the kind of leadership you are looking for?

I do agree that Freshmen core was a great idea having had 2 of my three children have that option.
With the changes at Seven Oak, some of the concepts that were used at one time won't work. Many students complete freshmen LA in eighth grade. The whole system would have to be once again revamped in order to return to the previous ways. These kids have had enough change and enough uncertainty -Please don't disrupt them in the middle of the school year. Look to make the change for next fall- Leave these poor seniors alone.

Are you actually talking to the people responsible for the departments/buildings you list to get accurate, first-hand responses/explanations, or are you just going by the word on the street? If you were, then I MIGHT buy into the title of this blog.

LP, thank you for your response about what classes you think need to be restored. The courses you mention are not required for graduation. Students do not need advanced classes, family/child, welding, auto or vocational classes to meet graduation requirements. It would be wonderful to have more variety in all of these categories, I agree. However, you wrote "so that kids at the high school might actually be able to take classes they need to be on track for graduation" doesn't seem to match your answer. Please be specific if you truly think LHS needs graduation requirement classes.
The welding teacher will be full-time trimester 2 & 3 of this school year and offering a variety of classes for students.
LHS does offer alternative education. They offer tutoring, CSC, Youthbuild, LBCC GED program and recently added the Insight Online program. What type of alternative program would you recommend beyond the current offerings?
