Sixty Seven Students...

67 students.... Do you know how much money 67 students would bring to Lebanon Schools? Well, each student is worth more than $6000, so if you do the math... 67 students would bring $402,000 to the district.

It seems to me that the concerns about the cost of last night's buy-out are yet another smoke screen designed to make others look bad and create an atmosphere of fear and concern.

Along these lines, according to witnesses Mr. Fisher made a serious deviation from a prior position he had held to very strongly... he is quoted as having said that they should have "just fired him" and saved the district money.

There is no conceivable way that Mr. Fisher would have voted to do that because he supposedly believed that legally they could not do that. So, why the Hail Mary at this point? It would seem that he was making one last ditch effort to keep Mr. Robinson. If he could change direction and tactic and get two others on the board to vote to not approve the deal with Mr. Robinson, he would not have resigned and we would still be in turmoil today.

Everyone seems to have been concerned about the finances in the district. (Judging by the amount of groaning and squirming at the district office around this audit they are in there would appear to be cause for concern.) However, when you look at things from a broader perspective based on real numbers and data, not the fantasy spreads that the district office produces for Board meetings, things are much more simple.

How are we going to pay for the buy-out?

Sixty seven students.

And precisely where are you going to get 67 students? Do you really think 67 students will show up because Mr. Robinson is no longer in charge? We still have a dysfunctional school board especially with the results of the election tonight. I believe this will embolden Josh and company to cause more discord among the community. They have always taken "my way or the highway" approach instead of looking for compromise and consensus. Hopefully, the recall effort will get them to see the way to heal the community is to look at what is working and what is going wrong and fix the wrong, even if it is not what they like. The academy system is one example. It has been successful in many respects. Math scores are up(only 2%, but up) and drop-outs are way down(11% down to 5%). It needs reinforcing and tweaking but it should stay in place. To increase offerings, we need to increase funding for teachers and supplies. We need to find a way to help students get the classes they want without teacher shopping. We need to increase the funds for elementary and middle schools so they can have full-time art, music, and P.E. Instead of trying to continue dividing the community, work on things we all can agree upon. I hope this is what they take from the election.

Students will slowly return. As for the comments that small school systems work is misleading at best. Lets look at how the percentages were calculated and the sampling used. Yes we need to concentrate on restoring basics to our education and creating balance with in our system. But frankly, lets cut the people bashing now.

What do we need?
We need someone who has proven leadership skills as well as a track record of creating high quality programs. We need someone who has ties to our community and whom would work with everyone to truly develop our community. We need someone who will instill a sense of pride in our schools, programs, and community .We need someone who is not afraid to stand up for what is right for our kids and teachers. We need someone who is not trying to use us a a stepping stone but rather create a long term relationship based upon what our kids can be and achieve. We need someone who is a product of our community. I truly believe that the person that we need to help us move forward and help heal our community is already here. I've experienced this persons leadership and seen the results that can come about when there is trust, direction, and hard work.

So it seems anonymous Oct 7 think they know what is best for this school district rather than those of us who wanted Robinson to go and who supported NO RECALL: How arrogant. No...I think YOU need to realize you aren't in charge here...the majority does not agree with you and this is thankfully, a democracy. Anonymous, it is YOU who needs to stop with the threats and realize it is YOU who needs to see the way to heal here is to fix what's wrong even if it's not what YOU want. I can see healing is going to be awhile coming with at least some in the pro-recall faction refusing to accept that most of us disagree with them -- that they are NOT right. Sounds like some of them plan to keep up a fight and refuse to accept that the voters have spoken, which is a very sad situation for our students.

Surely you are talking about Bo Yates.

Math scores are not up. They went from 50% to 32%. Drop-outs are not way down from 11% to 5%. The actual figure is from 6% to 4%. The latest report card on Lebanon Schools is mixed at best. Some areas, we improved on, and in other area we did not. If you really believe the Acadmy System is working, you haven't been in this community very long. Since we have had Acadmies, we have been cellar dwellers across the board in all areas compared to other school districts in the state. This is not acceptable. I'm not saying scrap the Academies, but I am saying we need leadership that has the ability to bring everyone together and build relationships. We need leadership that will support our teachers. I wish everyone would please just stop attacking each other. Do you see what our great administration has created?
